This cruise will take you to view the famous Hole in the Rock while providing an informative commentary.
During your cruise, you will be treated to informative (and amusing) narratives of the pre-European settlement, the missionaries, as
well as the whalers and sealers of the 19th century who visited this area.
You will pass Paihia and the historic town of Russell as you make your way to the Bay of Islands Channel where your high-speed
catamaran will “power up.” You will then cruise through renowned game-fishing and yachting waters en route to the Cape Brett
Lighthouse. Your cruise will take you to the inner islands of the bay to Motukokao Island and the famous Hole in the Rock. Here, your
boat will negotiate the channel through the hole and into the Grand Cathedral Cave.
On board the vessel you will stop for a photo opportunity while a professional photographer also takes a picture of yourselves with
the local Maori guides against the impressive backdrop of the Hole in the Rock. You will also be treated to a morning or afternoon
tea at this unique, scenic location.
Continuing on you will stop at the beautiful Otehei Bay at Urupukapuka Island, the largest of the Bay of Islands group. Urupukapuka
was made famous in the 1920’s when the writer Zane Gray established a base here for his fishing adventures in the waters of this
area. Leaving the boat, you’ll have the opportunity to see Zane Gray’s Restaurant, or relax on the beach during your approximate
one-hour stay.
The waters of this area are teeming with a large variety of marine life. You may encounter pods of dolphin, seals, fairy penguins or
whales.
Your return trip will pass more scenic islands, beautiful bays and marine wildlife. 4 hours
